Bedding Donation Helps Homeless Sleep Soundly This Christmas
29th November 2013
Slumberdown is helping Leeds’ homeless stay warm and cozy this Christmas by donating bedding supplies to Leeds-based care center, the St George’s Crypt.
With the nights draw in and the temperature set to plummet even further over the festive season, Slumberdown is gifting the local charity with winter supplies to help it care for the city’s homeless this Christmas. The donation, which will be split into five deliveries over the course of the year, will see the Mirfield-based bedding supplier donate hundreds of pounds worth of surplus stock.
Gary Johnson, business manager at Slumberdown, said: “We have long-standing ties with St George’s Crypt and we’re very proud to support them in their mission to provide comfort and assistance to the homeless and disadvantaged. No-one should have to spend Christmas shivering and alone on the city’s streets, and we consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to be able to help bring a little comfort, especially at this time of year.”
St George’s Crypt has been a shining light in the Yorkshire community for over 80 years and has helped tens of thousands of people get their lives back on track since opening its doors in 1930. The Crypt relies on the help of local businesses to keep its services running and to allow its staff to assist the 200 people they see on average every day.
Cheryl Harrington, lead fundraiser at St George’s Crypt, said: “The bedding will be used to furnish the 65 beds we have here at the Crypt and at our two hostels in the city. Because Slumberdown has also committed to replenishing the donation throughout the year, we will now be able to let patrons take their bedding with them when they move into other accommodation – a welcome relief when they’re faced with the anxiety of setting up on their own for the first time. We’re very thankful to Slumberdown for their continued support. This donation will mean a lot to people who often have so little to look forward to at Christmas.”
